I hate contemporary journalism

I was attracted by The Third World, Africa. [Therefore] I've chosen a foreign journalism; and the wars are its beloved subject.” That is how Wojciech Jagielski, a famous Gazeta Wyborcza journalist, describes his job.

Jagielski, born in 1960, is a prominent journalist, writer and war correspondent in Africa and Asia. As a writer he was awarded many times. One of his greatest achievement is a nomination for the Nike prize for the book “A pray for rain.” At the beginning of his career he wrote pure journalism. Then, as he claims, he decided to be “braver than Kapuściński” and he took a step further enriching his writing with elements of fiction.

“The first evil thing in journalism is the fact that information has become a product,” the writer complains, “But this is not the point. The point is that a product has to be wrapped up – and the wrapping constitutes the essence.”

Jagielski claims that the journalism in the 21st century has lost its magic. “It is more about the image of the journalists itself,” he says, “than the value and credibility of the information. The real aim of the contemporary journalists is their publicity.” However, he chooses to still stay sincerely responsible for his words.

In his book entitled The Night Walkers, Jagielski uses one of literary techniques; an introduction of composite characters. Such a literature trick was a result of a simple fact – the author wouldn't be able to all about the 20 children soldiers that he talked to. Instead, he compressed the stories and presented them through the two heroes.

As Jagielski said, he does not lie; he just tries to present as much reality as he can. He devotes all of his work and effort to his wife making it extremely meaningful and valuable. “ Everything I do, I do it for my wife.”

'The first evil thing in the world is the fact that information has become a product. But this is not the point. The point is that a product has to be wrapped up – and the wrapping constitutes the essence,'says Jagielski, a famous Gazeta Wyborcza journalist.

Lambadaaa :)

Depending on our moods we keep on changing the list of the top rated songs constantly. Therefore, it is not really so easy to decide just on one song... However, I beg that everyone has some melodies to listen to in a moment of sadness or in a surge of happiness :)

The songs that I have found meaningful and particularly important for me are Lambada by Kaoma and Hurt by Christina Aguilera. For some, they might be just a sheer cliche, but i hope that others will notice an exceptionality while listening.

Kaoma Lambada

This is the song of my childhood :) Anytime I listen to it, I feel like smiling...
Lambada was the hit in early 90. As my mother memorizes, when I was 3, barely able to walk without anyone's help, and the song was played in a radio, I was suddenly standing up and dancing... or at least trying to dance :D

Hurt Christina Aguilera

This track is probably the most meaningful song for me. It brings me back the memories of my late father, who passed away when I was 2. I listen to it when I feel like nothing in my life makes sense any longer -- it reminds me that there is always sb up there, looking down upon me, being proud of who I am...

Enjoy !

The book of my childhood

Unfortunatelly, diggin in my memory i did not manage to find any extraordinary, surprising title... "Little Red Riding Hood," "Sleeping Beauty," "Cinderella," "The Little Match Girl" - who doesn't know those stories?

The tales from the childhood somehow root in our memories. If one wakes you up in the middle of a night, you can recite the the titles like a pray, without even a minute of hesitancy. Hiding a mousy smile on your face...

But can you recall the literature from your primary school? Probably not really... :)

Well, i have to admit that having read the instruction of our new task, the only book that came to my mind was actually a compulsory book rather than a tale...

It is LITTLE PRINCE by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

The book presents the world of adults seen from a perspective of a small boy. But what is amazing in the book, is that the little boy turns out to be more mature that the "grown-ups"...

I really recommend "LP" to both - all those who haven't read it yet, and those who have - but forgot... :)

A masterpiece of French literature!

Enjoy!

Impossible is nothing?

a table
2 chairs
3 beds
a closet (1 for 3 girls!! - disaster...)
a kitchen-cupboard
a fridge
a window
and the door, of course...

nothing unusual... a typical romm in a dormitory.

Probably trying to design a room from the items that i had listed, you have in your minds a picture of a modern interior... Ikea 2010? Am I right? no way, my Dears...

Believe me or not - I was about to flee this with the second i opened the door on September, 30th when I first moved in to Poznań.

*All the furniture dating back to 1960s.
*Fridge? Barely working...
*Table - having absorbed all kids of alcohol spilt by so many generations of the students, luckily still stood on his 4 legs :D

Living in such a place right after you leave your mother's cosy house = IMPOSSIBLE!
But in fact, Nike was right - 'impossible is nothing'.

Now, having spent almost 3 years in the same dorm, i'd never change that place for any exclusive-excellent-expensive apartment... :)

Is does not really matter where you live - it matters who you live with!
